Spare keys

Spare car keys, cut and
coded while you wait

If your vehicle is down to a single key, sorting a spare now costs a lot less than sorting it later. Booked in at your address across Newcastle upon Tyne.

The job

One key is one bad afternoon away

Plenty of vehicles get sold on with only one key, and nobody thinks about it until that key goes down a drain or through a washing machine. Getting a second key done while the first one still works is the cheap way round it.

A spare is cut to your vehicle and then programmed to it, so it starts the engine and works the central locking exactly as the original does. It is tested on the car before we pack up.

Appointments are booked in advance. This is not a 24 hour or emergency callout service, and roadside lockouts are not covered. Call or message with your vehicle details and we will arrange a time that suits you.

What a spare key involves

Cutting the blade

The blade is cut to your vehicle, whether that is a standard, laser or sidewinder profile.

Coding the transponder

The chip inside the key is coded to the immobiliser so the engine will actually start.

Pairing the remote

Where the key has buttons, the central locking remote is paired at the same time.

Checking your old key

Your existing key is tested too, so you leave knowing both work.

Vehicles

Cars, vans and fleet vehicles

Spare keys are covered for a wide range of cars, vans and light commercials. Fleet and business vehicles are welcome, and multiple vehicles can be done in the same visit if they are at the same address.

Motorcycle keys are not covered. Motorcycle auto electrical work is done under our sister business, but not keys.

Questions

Spare key questions

How long does a spare key take?
Most spare keys are cut, programmed and tested inside an hour on site, once the appointment is booked.
Do I need to bring the car anywhere?
No. The work is done wherever the vehicle is parked, at home or at work, as long as it is somewhere safe to work.
Will my existing key still work?
Yes. Adding a spare does not delete your current key on the vast majority of vehicles. Where a make requires all the keys to be coded again you will be told before the job starts.
What do you need from me?
The make, model and year, plus proof that the vehicle is yours. That means the V5C or equivalent paperwork along with matching photo ID.
Is a spare cheaper than a replacement?
Almost always. With a working key present the vehicle can be programmed the straightforward way, which takes less time and less equipment than a lost key job.
