Getting the car to listen again

A remote that has lost its pairing looks identical to a remote that has died. The difference matters, because one is a programming job and the other is a repair or a replacement.

Both are checked at the appointment. If the fob can be paired again it is paired again, and you are not sold a new key you did not need.

Appointments are booked in advance. This is not a 24 hour or emergency callout service, and roadside lockouts are not covered. Call or message with your vehicle details and we will arrange a time that suits you.
Covered

Remote and fob work

Remote programming

New or existing remotes paired to the vehicle so locking, unlocking and boot release all respond.

Button and case repairs

Worn rubber pads, split cases and broken battery contacts replaced, keeping your original electronics.

Keyless entry fobs

Proximity and push button start fobs coded to the vehicle where the make allows it.

Battery replacement

Correct cell fitted and the fob tested on the car, rather than guessed at in a car park.

Before you buy online

A word on cheap fobs

Aftermarket remotes from marketplace listings are a lottery. Some are fine. Others use chips that no diagnostic tool will accept, and no amount of programming will rescue them.

Mention what you have bought, or what you are thinking of buying, when you call. It is a two minute conversation that saves people a surprising amount of money.

Questions

Fob and remote questions

My remote has stopped locking the car. Is it the battery?
Very often, and that is worth trying first. If a fresh battery does not fix it, the remote may have lost its pairing, or the button contacts inside may have worn through.
Can a fob be reprogrammed rather than replaced?
Frequently yes. If the electronics inside are healthy, pairing the existing fob back to the vehicle is cheaper than a new key.
I bought a fob online. Can you program it?
Sometimes. Aftermarket fobs vary enormously in quality and some cannot be coded at all. Bring it up when you call rather than after it arrives, and you will be told whether it is likely to work.
Do you fix the case and buttons?
Yes. Worn rubber pads, cracked cases and tired battery contacts are common repairs, and the original electronics usually carry over.
Will programming a new remote wipe my other ones?
On most vehicles no. Where a make requires the full set to be coded together, bring every remote you own to the appointment.

Remote playing up?

Call with the vehicle details and what the fob is doing, and we will work out which job it is.
